LATEST NEWS

9 August: Following recent changes within the squad, Salford will travel to Pittodrie on Thursday night to take on Division One side Aberdeenshire Animals.

6 August:
With Salford looking forward to next week's crunch clash against the Hull Giants at Eastlands the club are pleased to announce that the game will be sponsored by High Street Giants Woolworths.

Marketing Manager Geezer Fewbob explained:
"We've been hearing rumours all week about Hull and their attempts at humour by threatening to bare all in the windows of a local store and as soon as Woolworths heard of this they couldn't resist coming on board with such a major game. They have explained that they have stepped up security in all their stores in the build-up to the game and anyone with a Yorkshire accent will politely be asked to leave, of course this does not apply to the Hull store itself where instead they will be charged double except on tissues to wipe away the tears when they lose."

Blues Coach Andy Gregory unexpectedly became drawn into the debate, simply stating:
"We had a bad result yesterday and the lads are gutted about losing to the Frogs. What better way than to put things right than with a win over the loud mouthed arrogant twerps from Humberside. They can call us all the names under the sun if they really want to but there is only one way we will shut them up and that's by outclassing them on Sunday."

Club Captain Willie Poching then saw the microphones and decided he wanted a say as well but was restrained from doing so as he was suffering from altitude sickness with his lofty position in the Premiership try-scoring league table.

1 July:
Welsh Dragons 4 Salford Blues 20
Things are slowly looking up for Salford and this amazing win over the Shaun Edwards Cup winners in front of a capacity 25,000 crowd at the Millennium Stadium is the highlight of their season so far.  They decimated the Dragons below strength line up and ripped them apart with tries from Hudson, Sampson and Wainwright (2).  Steve Blakeley kicked 2 from 5 for Salford while Darren Fleary scored the only try for the Dragons.

29 June: GREGORY ARRIVES AT EASTLANDS AS BROCK MOVES UPSTAIRS

As Salford prepare for their first league encounter of the season there have been major changes at Eastlands, the new 25,000 capacity stadium for Salford Blues.

With Kevin Brock making a move upstairs to concentrate on the efficient running of the EIRL Competition, Andy Gregory has been appointed as Head Coach and will make all team selection decisions whilst Brock will continue in his role as CEO with specific regard to media relations.

Speaking at his first press conference of his reign at Eastlands, Gregory was grilled by the media but the main points that came out of the conference are highlighted here:

Press: Andy, the team have struggled against the bigger teams so far in the competition, how do you feel you can turn things around?
AG: There is a good squad of players here, they are fully committed and have been training well. I think past results have been through pure bad luck rather than poor management and Sunday's game in Wales should be a cracker and you will see a different Salford team from the past - one that should be capable of at least the play offs this season.

Press: What do you think you are capable of achieving here at Eastlands?
AG: As I said earlier, I think there is a damn good squad here and we will be looking seriously at achieving a play off spot come the end of the regular season.

Press: What appealed to you about Salford?
AG: Well this is a sister club to Trafford Metro's who are in the IIRL. That is a major competition and Trafford are holding their own. I would like to think that Salford can be up there and fighting for a place in the IIRL next season and that is why I am here.

Press: Who do you think are going to be the main challengers for the season?
AG: I think the Premiership is full of quality sides. Hull Giants and Welsh Dragons have shown they are probably the most feared, but there are seven other teams who all, with a bit of luck, will be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.

Press: Do you think any new faces may come into the squad when the embargo is lifted at the end of July?
AG: I have a number of targets and there may be some changes in personnel but at the moment I am not about to start naming names and any discussions are only at an early stage.

23 June:
Salford travelled to France to take on Biarritz and came away with a good 20-4 win against what can be considered to be tough opposition.

17 June:
Salford had a good trial victory against RC Milan, the only team yet to win an EIRL game.

10 June:
Salford slumped in dramatic fashion against Boothstown wiping out any hopes of reaching the Shaun Edwards Cup Semi Finals.

3 June:
Salford scored a vital win over French Patriots and now need just a point against Boothstown next week to qualify for the semi finals of the Shaun Edwards Cup.
